Bergamot

Bergamot comes from the peel of Citrus bergamia, a fragrant citrus fruit strongly associated with southern Italy. Its oil is one of perfumery’s most widely used fresh materials and is also what gives Earl Grey tea its familiar aroma. It typically smells bright citrus, green peel, lightly floral, tart and gently bitter. It is a classic top note that opens a fragrance, adds sparkle and helps connect citrus to floral, aromatic or woody materials. Bergamot smells more floral and aromatic than a simple lemon note, which is why it works across many fragrance families.
