Cypriol, also called nagarmotha, is an aromatic oil obtained from the roots or rhizomes of Cyperus scariosus. It has become popular in woody, oud-style and leather compositions because of its dark dry character. It typically smells earthy, smoky, dry woody, leathery, spicy and slightly rooty. It is mainly a heart-to-base material, adding darkness, dryness and an oud-like or smoky woody impression. Cypriol can suggest oud without actually being agarwood, which is why the two often appear together.
