Oud

Oud is the perfume-world name for the smell associated with agarwood. Some fragrances use natural oud oil, while many use reconstructed accords that emphasize woody, smoky, leathery or animalic facets. It typically smells dark woody, resinous, smoky, leathery, earthy and sometimes animalic. It is usually a powerful base note that can define the entire fragrance or simply add dark woody depth beneath rose, spices and amber. Agarwood is the fragrant resinous wood itself; “oud” on a modern perfume label can also mean an oud-style reconstruction rather than natural agarwood oil.

How Oud Works in Perfume
If Oud catches your attention, look beyond the note pyramid and notice what surrounds it. It commonly works with rose, saffron, amber, sandalwood and patchouli, but the balance of those materials determines whether the result feels light, rich, clean or intense. One perfume may put Oud in the spotlight while another uses it only for texture. Try the fragrance on skin and give the drydown time to develop. Arovell’s authentic decants let you explore perfumes with Oud in Bangladesh without starting with a full bottle.
